Like the opponents in the old video game, Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out, some mornings hit harder than others.
I should have known that God was directly intervening in my morning one day, when the cold air reminded me to go back inside and get my coat. Given the number of days I’ve just toughed out the cold – when I should have gone back for a coat – this was significant. What was more significant was that I also spotted my laptop bag from work, which I had forgotten to grab on the way out to the car. (Leaving my work computer at home would have been a really bad start to my work day.)
A few minutes later, driving on my usual route to work, the song “King of My Heart” was playing. As I pulled up to a line of cars at a stoplight (one of many lights on my route…no matter which route I choose on a given morning), I found myself behind a panel truck, with a stand of trees off to my right. The trees arched over my car, and I had just a bit of peace and quiet. Between the truck blocking out the view of Dunkin’ Donuts, and the trees masking the local cemetery, I had a bit of sylvan calm in the ever-expanding urban sprawl of my commute.
This rare moment – like that occasional moment when all the traffic outside quiets at the same time, giving a brief respite for my ears – seemed timely that morning. Here’s a specific line from that song:

The composer of this song likely had Bible passages like this one in mind:

Normally, I like to “run and gun”. I’m happiest at work when I’m juggling multiple tasks at the same time, trying to solve challenging problems. The drive to work is most fun when I take corners as fast as my little (non-sporty) car can handle, or feel some G-forces accelerating or braking.
Sometimes, though, I just need a little peace. The world around me isn’t usually much help, but God can provide the peace I actually need.
And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:7 NASB

Those Who Sin Differently 
This comes to mind as I read this post: When we have peace WITH God, we then experience the peace OF God. We have peace with God through our Savior Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection. We have peace of God from the reassurance that our relationship to Him has been restored by Jesus.
Your post reminds me of the very many times when He has reminded me with “little” things like you described, that He is pleased to call me His own.

That’s a great point. Perhaps that is part of what the angels meant in Luke 2:14, when they introduced Jesus with a message of peace, but I think that Romans 5:1-2 echoes this sentiment exactly. Thank you for sharing this.

Yes, Luke 2:14 was on my mind as I wrote the comment, but thought it best to keep it shorter, rather than referencing a verse that isn’t always translated with the same wording, or understood quite the same, then having to explain my take on it. And, Romans 5:1-2 does indeed declare the same truth.
