Dealing With Regret

(The following is a guest post from my youngest, who is 10 years old.)

I have some regret I’ve been dealing with but I couldn’t find out how to help myself. I talked to my parents about it and my mom recommended I memorize some Bible verses. I have been trying to memorize a couple of verses and I can definitely feel a difference with my regret. I feel as though instead of it being regret it is just a memory.

This is one of the Bible verses I am working on memorizing.

Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy.
Ephesians 4:23‭-‬24 NLT

Memorizing Bible verses isn’t the only way to help with regret, you could also pray. A way that I think helped me the most is simply admitting it. There are surely more ways to help with regret. I can’t think of anymore though.

An example of a prayer you could do is

Dear God,
I am having trouble with this regret
and I would really like some help with it.
If you could help me with that God. I
would like that.
Amen.

Sometimes God uses things like regret to keep us from becoming too proud.

An example is in this verse,

or because of these surpassingly great revelations. Therefore, in order to keep me from becoming conceited, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me.
2 Corinthians 12:7 NIV

So if you feel proud and the regret isn’t going away you could try to be humble instead of proud.

Remember, God is more powerful than Satan so he will have a good reason to not take the regret away.

If you memorize Bible verses, pray, admit your regret, and be more humble, I can’t guarantee your regret will get better but it will probably get at least a little better.
